Emily’s List of Awesome

In absolutely no particular order….

  • Adopted a new fluffball of a 2 year old kitty named Husky in May 2017.  He’s got the markings of a Husky dog, and a wild personality to match.  He’s also extremely loving and cuddly and very gentle.
  • Met up with my fave BC drummer Dylan when he was here to town to play some shows with the country band he works with (November 2016).
    • Got to meet his guitar friend – Adam – who was also part of Kieran Mercer’s band from the Marianas Trench tour.
    • Spent the evening hanging around with the band (mostly Adam and Dylan) and had a fantastic time. Very sweet and welcoming people.
    • Had another almost private show from the band.
    • Dylan gave me his drum sticks post-show just for being a fan.  I love them and they’re now with my MT and MG autographed stuff.
  • Went to Buffer Fest (October 23rd), where I got to meet my favourite YouTuber, Michael Aranda.  Like a complete and utter dork, I asked him to sign a picture of the video I submitted to his channel for an intro.  He did, cause he’s nice, but man did I feel like an idiot. I’d do it again, though. Nice guy.  Just as handsome up close as on video.
  • First trip to Fan Expo in 2016 (despite trying to go to it for years) with a fantastic new friend and had an amazing time.
  • Went on a cruise from Vancouver through Alaska. Stayed in a tiny cabin with a balcony for 7 days and managed to not puke everywhere. (June 2016)
    • Visited Icy Strait and attended a Tribal Dance hosted by the high school students of Hoonah.
    • Visited Juneau and wandered around the downtown, and up the Mount Roberts Tramway.
    • Educated a handsome young Alaskan man about the Toronto Blue Jays.
    • Saw dozens of Bald eagles on the side of the highway.
    • Visited Mendenhall Glacier, stuck my hand in glacier-cold water, took a massive number of pictures, hiked up to Nugget Falls.
    • Touched 200 year old ice from a glacier. Flipping awesome moment.
    • Visited Ketchikan and walked the historic Creek Street (no salmon at that point though). Also got questioned and thanked a lot of our boat NOT crashing into the pier this week.
    • Had a kid ask me to pay him a dollar to jump off the bridge into the water – which I could film.
    • Visited Glacier Bay National Park and witnessed the glaciers calving with the fantastic sound of “white thunder.” (http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/national-parks/glacier-bay-national-park/)
    • Ate frog legs (did not like the texture and kinda tasted like nothing except the sauce on it)
    • Ate duck (learned that properly prepared it is delightful.)
    • Went to a restaurant on the boat where there was a waiter, assistant waiter and sommelier for each table. Fancy pants. (and I regularly went in dirty jeans? Oops)
    • Swam in an outside pool, on a rocking boat causing mini tidal waves, while viewing snow covered mountains. Had a moment about it.
    • Ate at a restaurant that had glass floor sections over open moving ocean. Weird and slightly scary.
    • Took advantage of the professional photographers on “Evening Chic” night to have some white trash photos taken.
    • Laughed so hard I cried repeatedly at a comedy/impressions show by Sean O’Shea when he lost a ring and went into Gollum mode.
    • Saw a whale swimming alongside our boat at night and (appropriately) flipped out about it.
    • Attended not one but two art auctions, where the auctioneer told penis jokes “accidentally”.
    • Won a bottle of Champagne and a piece of art. Still not sure how that happened.
    • Met a man whose name was Simba who did, in fact, like the Lion King and referenced Hakuna Matata when he knew that you knew.
  • Attended Plans & Disguises concert – those guys are amazing both live and recorded. (June 2, 2016, Vancouver)
    • Got to hear my favourite songs live, in person, and like no more than 10 feet away
    • Hugged the drummer – Dylan – multiple times at that!
    • Hugged the guitarist – Woody – who is awesome too!
    • Got an on-stage shout-out for just being there.
    • Got so much love and thanks for just showing up to the show.
    • Left the show feeling like I might make friends – and I love that feeling.
  • Vancouver Traveling June 2016
    • Went swimming in snow-fed springs in 30+c weather. What a wickedly painful but delightful mix of hot and cold.  (June 2016)
    • Played in small snow piles in the mountains in the end of June (2016)
    • Reconnected with an old high school friend, that I hadn’t seen since high school, and who was just as sweet and amazing as I remembered
  • Met Marianas Trench in Dallas, TX (January 19, 2016)
    • Keiran won tickets to a radio show to see them in the AM – free acoustic show, autographed pictures and your picture taken with them.   Mike scared me when he jumped out in front of me.  Sat at basically Matt’s feet.  They sang 3 songs – This Means War, One Love and Good Vibrations.  Then we lined up for pictures and I flipped out a little.  Someone commented on my “I Speak Fluent Sarcasm” shirt as I walked away.
    • Keiran bought VIP tickets for giftmas present, so we got to attend a Q&A, where idiots pissed off/upset Josh enough that I thought he was going to walk off stage (and it would’ve been warranted but damn I was right at his feet at that point and would’ve been totally disappointed) , then they sang accapella “So it goes”. Got pins and a picture and a VIP badge.  And got our pictures taken with them, where they signed my VIP badge.
    • Show was AWESOME.  We spent the show at Mike’s feet on the side of the stage.  He threw Keiran a T-shirt.  Josh touched my back as he was returning to stage after being in the crowd (think he thought I was going to back into him)
    • Hung around post show and got to talk to Mike and get individual pictures.  For some reason we (and this other girl) were discussing math as we got close to him and he chimed in with a list of prime numbers.  Got pictures with Ian too, but Matt took off just as we approached him, and Josh was swamped so we let him be.
  • Marianas Trench-A-Thon in March 2016.
    • Oshawa show in second row. Right at Josh Ramsay’s feet.  Fantastic show.  Great view.  But busted camera + sick = Devastated.
    • Peterborough show. Parents contributed to half of my new camera (yes, I’m spoiled).  4th row with cousin who kept flipping out that we were 4th  Met Kieran Mercer and his band at intermission. Realized afterwards the drummer was from another band I’d heard of.  Cousin caught Josh Ramsay’s guitar pic during my favourite song and gifted it to me.  I might’ve almost cried.  Best show of the tour by a long shot.
    • Toronto show. Last show. Far left, 9th row I think.  Good show.  Great view of the flying.  Good sound

    • Took him out for dinner afterwards and had a great time.
  • Elton John concert (Sept 2012)
    • Technically went to two Elton John concerts. Only one was successful – the first was cancelled 15 minutes after the start time due to him being sick.  Observed a mini diva-fit by the Sir when his piano broke.  Loved the show immensely and extremely glad he rebooked so quickly.
